Anonymous asked: i'm interested in going to uc berk for comp sci and I was just wondering if you have any tips to improve my application? what was your sat and such?
To be honest, I was surprised I was accepted into Cal. I graduated high school with a 4.2 GPA (AP/Honor classes), an 1880 SAT score, and a membership of a volunteer work club. Those were the only academically impressive things on my application. I did pretty badly on the SAT2, I had no extra curricular activities, and I didn’t take any college classes during the summers. I think the most important part is the personal statement; it’s where you can show who you are as an individual and what you have to offer. Most of the people who I knew (and were also accepted, but their applications were much more impressive than mine) talked about how their parents had it hard and how they’ve tried their whole lives to go to college blah blah blah. I thought it was so redundant, and I focused more on myself and my goals. I think that’s what got me in. The best suggestion I can make is to go to campus and talk to a academic counselor!
